Supporting One Another

“I don’t know about you all. But I’ve pretty much mastered working from home while parenting…” Can you relate to my friend?

Strategies in these Times

I am checking in with you. Some of us are deeply impacted by the big change and others not as much. In conversation, many have shared that you are using this time to reflect on your career and ask some of the bigger questions like, "What is my purpose?". This is an opportunity for us to get away from the daily pressures and ask these questions. When it all passes, there will be a “new normal.” Contemplating these questions will inform our new normal.

Physical and Mental Health

As humans, we need to be intentional about creating predictability in our lives. What are you doing to create a routine in your life? Predictability is comforting. Here are some ways I am structuring my days with my husband and adult son in the house. Each morning I wake up at a good time (8:00 a.m.), have a call with three other committed colleagues, who are my accountability buddies, and then do my own thing until supper time. I build in creative time (developing teacher training, homework for a virtual course), outside walks and exercise (weights, stretching, TV programs) and I learn something new daily (usually webinars and reading). Every day I make a few calls to connect with people. I have noticed that watching the news affects me so I have limited that to once or twice a day for about ten minutes. I go to bed at a good time as I need more sleep. News, change and a constant flow of information require more sleep.

Before or after supper, we all work in the basement for an hour sorting and purging. It feels good to be making daily progress on a project like that. We have supper together and share about our day. In the evening we watch a story on TV. Weekends are intentionally different and sets us up for another week.
